Progress!!

Some of you have asked, others might be wondering??!!

Our update on things thus far . . .

We have sold one of our trucks!!! Praise the Lord for His perfect timing! One down and one to go! Keep praying.

As you may remember, I travel to the next city south of us every Tuesday morning for Bible Study. This was a direct command from God -- as we were driving out of Texas He told me I was to return to that Bible Study (after more than 3 years gone) and although I wondered why I decided I should be obedient. Pastor Martie, who leads the study, just returned from a mission trip to Equador and my, oh my, was her world changed! And now there are many things that will be happening in regards to that trip. Monty and I have made ourselves available to assist them in whatever ways we can. Stay tuned as I know this one is going to get interesting and I'm excited to see what God has in store for all of us!

And here at home . . . as you know there WERE alot of storms this hurricane season. But God! Not a one of them got into the gulf to cause damage! He DOES calm the seas! All the while Monty and I questioned what God was calling us to do? Where were we to go? When? And each of those questions were asked to us day after day after day by family and friends. There just wasn't an answer ---- until now!

Without a doubt --- as clear as can be --- as awesome as God is --- He is calling us to stay here! To stay home! We were thrilled with that call but . . . what is it that He would have us do while we are here? And then He spoke again . . .

"Build a missions training school at home." Do what ????? "Build a missions training school at home."

And so . . . we are building a missions training school right here at home!!!!! The third week of January we will open an extension of International Gospel Outreach right here at home! WOW! We are in the planning and preparation stages right now. A host sight needs to be decided on, materials need to be ordered and sent to us, registration forms need to be completed and most of all --- Monty and I need to get the word out!!!!!

The mission field has come to us!! You don't have to drive far from your own home to experience a different culture and/or language. We ALL are in the mission field and we ALL need as much training as possible to become better at whatever God has called us to do!

This is the school Monty and I attended, graduated from, became licensed through and are ordained through. It was life changing for both of us and we are excited to be able to be used by God to reach out to others, through both teaching and life situations --- to be able to learn more and more about where each of us fits in the mission of life!

Be sure and stay tuned as things will be happening quickly. Classes will begin in January and will be completed in June --- just in time for the next storm season to begin! See what I mean about God's perfect timing!! And it still surprises me! It still excites me! I pray it always does!

If you are interested in these classes, or know of someone who might be, please get in touch with us or leave a comment on this blog. Your life will be changed forever! I promise!

Until next time . . . be blessed and be thankful! Susan and Monty

Here and abroad?

The beauty of red maples! This one is in our front yard and was taken a few days ago. As of today it's completely barren! Winter is surely coming!

So much is going on that I don't know where to begin. God has been speaking some pretty big things to us and we're trying our best to listen and obey.

We could use your prayers for direction, guidance and strength.

All things are good, some here and some there, some farther than there. I can't go into them right at the moment as it would confuse all of us even more . . . but God . . . what an awesome God!

In the meantime --- I, personally, could use some prayers for healing. I had more dental work done yesterday and although it was just to remove a broken filling and replace it I had trouble regaining the feeling in my face and neck after the numbing shots. Instead of taking the predicted 90 minutes it took 7 hours --- and during that time I evidently bit my tongue without knowing it! And I mean BITE! I have been unable to eat since then and it's quite the mess! Thankfully our mouths heal quicker than anywhere else on our bodies but it's still extremely painful! Thank you ahead of time for those prayers!

Be sure and stay tuned as things are happening, plans are being made and it's all so very exciting!

Until next time . . . be blessed. Susan and Monty

Live Feed

If only dogs could talk?! The dogs here would tell quite the story and probably have us owners taken away by the folks in the white coats!
Samson wasn't thrilled with his spiked mohawk colored green and tattoos. Bitty was thrilled with her pink tutu, boa and painted toe nails. Argus was truly a pumpkin -- the shirt fit like skin! The Barktoberfest was a huge hit with dogs dressed in everything imaginable! The "winner" was dressed like a yellow duck -- and he left the hat on all evening! We all need a good laugh now and then and this was a great laugh for all (except the dogs)!
We are awaiting the live feed of Timothy and Lindsey receiving their missions license. If you log on to this at just the right time you can log on and watch for yourself. They are on TN time which is 1 hour earlier than here in IN and the same time as TX. Log onto www.igoministries.org and you can see the title of this years conference. Click on that and then the star in the corner to watch the live feed for tonight, Friday, at 6:30pm their time. We are so anxious to watch and know God is about to change their lives forever! What an awesome God we serve!
Until next time . . . be blessed. Susan and Monty

Off They Went

The past 3 days just flew by -- so much going on and so much fun!

Timothy and Lindsey left in the wee hours of this morning; headed for TN where tomorrow they will receive their licenses in ministry through the same missions training school we attended, International Gospel Outreach. They will hold this license for a year while they complete their schooling and then will receive their ordination. We are so happy for the both of them and so glad they also recognized the calling God has placed on their lives and their obedience in following that call. We miss them and wish we could be there tomorrow night! God is about to pour out even more blessings on them!! Hope they hold on tight!

You can see a Halloween preview that we all got to share in the other night! Grandchildren!!!! We received a phone call from our grandson saying they were baking chocolate chip cookies and could we come and have some? Are you kidding --- me pass up chocolate!!!!!! Off we went and they had baked kid size ones (good for me) and we had a blast when they wanted to show us a preview of their costumes! My daughter tried and tried to find the Ariel princess wig and when she did wondered if Liv would wear it. Wear it? She didn't want to take it off!!!! They sang songs for us and we all were doubled in laughter! What a great evening!

My parents also treated us to a fantastic evening at their house. My mom outdid herself in cooking -- something Timothy remembered and was very excited to experience again!! The laughter could have gone on for hours but we had to get back home. We had been gone all day and dogs can only keep their legs crossed for so long!

We also took a tour of the Indiana University campus yesterday. The leaves are at their peak in color and when a freak rain shower fell we decided to duck in one of the ethnic places and grab a snack. Later in the evening Timothy and Lindsey had a conference to attend on campus. Lindsey is pursuing her degree in medicine and some schools came to show off their "wares" so they had a great time getting to see some of the midwest schools and their programs.

After a very late dinner where our neighbor, Shelley, joined us they had packed and caught a quick "nap" before heading out in the wee hours of the morning. We did receive a text that they arrived safe and sound.

Now we are focusing on still trying to sell trucks. Monty has a gentleman driving up from south of Louisville, KY to take a look at his this evening. Pray that it sells!!

And also this evening we are taking our dogs to Barktoberfest --- and it should be a riot! The apartment complex that my daughter manages is having this for all their dogs. They also had the drool in the pool day and you saw photos of that. Thank goodness for the dollar store as we were able to "outfit" each dog for only a couple of bucks. Wait till you see the photos!!!!!

Time continues to move, we continue working away and God is constant through it all! Isnt' He an amazing God!

Until next time . . . be blessed. Susan and Monty

He's Baaaack -- and this time he brought his wife!

Yes -- Timothy has returned!!!! And this time he brought his wife, Lindsey -- the first time we have met her! We are thrilled.
They arrived yesterday morning after driving from Florida all night. They are actually on their way to Tennessee and yes, this is out of the way but . . .
It was so good to have them back and we are looking forward to the next few days. Lindsey will be looking at Indiana University and their medical programs while Timothy prepares for receiving his missionary license with International Gospel Outreach this weekend in Tennessee. He has been attending their online classes and is excited about the future God has for him. He has always had a heart for missions and is working in that field in a church in Florida. This education will be so helpful for him now and in the future.
Please keep them in their prayers as they travel over the next week and as they both continue in the callings God has placed on their lives!
Also, on a side note -- please pray for our neighbor, Tony as he will be undergoing surgery to remove one of the lobes of his liver -- cancer! This all happens tomorrow and the man has already been through so much!
Until next time . . . be blessed and bless someone else today! Susan and Monty

Grandparent's Day!

For the first time --- I got to experience Grandparent's Day with my 5 year old grandson at his preschool! Awesome!

I got to have the afternoon "shift" and his other grandmother took the morning. When I got there they were finishing recess and in we headed for some play time. We spent all our time at the legos where our imaginations ran wild and he wished for more legos at home! Suggested we make a trip to Target after school!!! :)

After playtime it was snack time with cookies, cheese and crackers --- all a huge hit!

Then it was time to head to music where we all participated in good ole Farmer in the Dell where I got to play the rat --- headband with ears and all! What a hoot!

Then we had a special treat watching the High Flyers Trapeze artists practice. They were all quite interested -- for the first 10 minutes and then their attention span had stretched back to the playground. The teacher agreed that was a better place for them to be and off we were.

By the end of that it was time to go in and pick up back packs and head home. I offered the choice of a donut or ice cream and he choose the carmel milkshake at Dairy Queen!

He had been so excited during the entire day -- today was the day he would get to ride in a truck for the first time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was a Ford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even better --- of course we have no idea why it was better!!

He laughed at how bumpy it was and as we pulled into his subdivision I allowed him to ride in the bed of the truck! He was screaming with delight down the entire trip and his dad said he heard him coming down the street about 5 houses away!

What a day --- what a blessing for me as I have missed out on the other 3 over the past 3 years! And I even got to meet my daughter and granddaughter for lunch before going to school! It just doesn't get much better than that!

I am so thankful that God still has us here -- rebuilding relationships with family! After all -- isn't that what God is all about --- relationships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And tonight we get to have dinner with my other daughter and her boyfriend!!!!! Thank you Lord!!!

Until next time . . . do something special with your family this weekend! Susan and Monty

For Sale

This might seem like a strange blog entry but "a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do."
Those of you who have ever volunteered with us will recognize the top photo and the second one. That Chevrolet S10 ZR2 has been my "baby" for quite a few years. The ole' dependable white Ford has been Monty's for more years. The red Ford is a fairly new addition.
Now here's the situation. We were able to pick up a somewhat newer truck that can pull heavier loads than Monty's existing Ford. We do NOT need this many trucks and we DO need the finances -- times have been more than tough this past year -- as you all well know.
So . . . I am letting all of you know what we have available and if you are interested in either of them please leave your information in the form of a comment on this blog. I will get back with you asap.
Our goal is to sell 2 of the 3 shown here -- the white Ford must sell and then I will drive either the red Ford or my Chevrolet -- makes no difference to me. We just HAVE to sell 2 of them.
Here are the descriptions:
2001 Chevrolet S10 with the ZR2 package.
4 wheel drive, extended cab with jump seat in the rear
Automatic, power windows, locks and cruise control
all tires have less than 3,000 miles on them and they are the oversized tires
The full size ladder rack, tool box, bed liner, grill guard and awesome winch are included.
This truck is in excellent condition and has truly been "lady driven"
159,000 miles
1995 Ford F250 with the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel
2 wheel drive, 5 speed
extended cab with full rear seat
new tires
long bed with both goose neck hitch and rails for 5th wheel hitch (which we will sell separately to anyone interested)
150,000 miles
1997 Ford F250 Heavy Duty
2 wheel drive, automatic
extended cab with full rear seat
long bed
power windows and locks with cruise control
this truck has never seen snow or salty roads!!!!
159,000 miles
There they are -- let us know if you, or anyone you know, is interested. They have all been maintained well and are in excellent shape.
Until next time . . . be blessed. Susan and Monty

Lessons Learned

The past few days have been some lessons learned for me. Some great, others not so great.

One, spending time with my mom has been alot of fun. We went to an auction sale (her territory for sure) and had so much fun. She even spent the night with us! Pajama party!!!

Two, spending time with my kids is priceless! Catching up on things (being gone for extended periods of time makes life tough) and whether it's painting with them or just being a part of their lives it's all such a blessing.

Three, spending time with grandchildren and seeing the smiles on their faces when Grandma comes to see them is -- angelic! We watched our grandson (age 5) play baseball, played with both of them in their back yard with swings and slides, read books and watched them grow right before our eyes -- it's truly a God thing! I even get to participate in Grandparents Day at preschool this coming week!!!

Four, having a tooth pulled that is already broken in two places and having it break apart while being pulled is NO fun! That happened two days ago and today I feel like I've been hit in the side of the face with a baseball bat! I know time will heal it but it still just plain sucks!

Five, seeing the leaves falling with the rains today is something we haven't seen in years! I admit I like the sunshine alot more but with the drought so severe that burn bans have been in effect and farmers fields have gone up in fire -- the rain is a good thing -- a cleansing thing!

So it's been a busy week of learning life lessons and having the moral be --- the good always outweighs the bad!!! God is always good!!!

Until next time . . . be blessed in all of your life lessons! Susan and Monty

One Hundred Sixty Nine !!!

Tissues, bars of soap, body wash (mens and womens), shampoo, razors, toothbrushes with toothpaste, wet wipes --- and so much more!
Sunday School Missions Day was a HUGE success with a total of 169 toiletry bags packed full for Monty and I to take with us on our next journey! What a blessing these will be for those who have lost it all! Not only the things inside but the love that was packed right along side everything else! Priceless!
The items came pouring in with a donation from a local store that sent it over the top! The kids took everything and sorted like with like before starting an assembly line that many of them made repeated trips through. Some were still working long past the time for Sunday School to end. And a few parents even got in the act and caught the contagiousness of the love and laughter. One little boy even brought his own greeting cards and wanted to make sure that I knew that one family would get the most special bag of all -- his! A mission mind packed inside such a small package!
After seeing the huge outpouring of love from our little church Monty said he wants to have the next project be a fund raiser for a semi truck so we can haul everything!!! It brought quite the laugh but somehow I wonder . . . the little church that could?! No one told them they were too small, that there weren't enough members to make a difference, that they didn't have the money, etc. They believed God for a miracle and as always -- God came through and they will ALL be blessed!
We are so grateful, so overwhelmed and so loved! Amazing!
Until next time . . . what can you do to make a difference? Susan and Monty

He wants to shout it to the world!

Pastor Gerald Martinez of Joshua's Vineyard Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico gave
us permission to use his full name and to tell his story -- as far as we know it!

A few days ago we received an email that really touched our hearts -- especially Monty's. Pastor Gerald is going through treatments for hepatitis C. Monty has been there and in fact, was one of the first in the nation pronounced "cured." Yes -- cured! Not in the sense of being in remission. The disease is gone -- never to return!

Pastor Gerald is going through this same treatment. It's an 11 month treatment that combines oral medication and shots that one must learn to give themselves. Not an easy treatment and the doctors told us it's equally as rough as chemotherapy! They weren't kidding!

Pastor Gerald started out with his viral load (the amount of virus in his bloodstream and thus his liver) at 25 million -- it should be zero!

When Monty spoke with him the other day they were awaiting the results of testing that is done at the 12 week period. At this point in the treatment you are experiencing some really severe and difficult side effects. Pastor Gerald was a bit "down" and needed the lifting up that Monty was able to give him. It always helps us when we can speak with someone who has been through what we are going through! God works that way and it's amazing!

This morning Pastor Gerald called to give Monty the results of that test. His viral load is 24!!!!!! He was thrilled and so thankful for all the prayers that have been prayed for him. Monty spoke with him at length and told him about this blog. Pastor Gerald said he wanted to shout it to the world and needed ALL the prayers he could get!

So here we are --- let's all get in prayer for this Pastor and for anyone else going through a disease of any kind. We don't need to know the details of the disease -- we know God who is our Almighty healer! He knows the needs and all we need to do is pray!

We thank our own Pastor Dave for sending us the email about Pastor Gerald and we thank God for the healing that has already taken place and we thank Him ahead of time for the healing we know will take place in the future!

In the meantime -- Monty has another life long friend that he hasn't even met in person!

What an awesome God we serve!

Until next time . . . be blessed and be praying! Susan and Monty

God's Plan

We've had alot of questions as to where we are going next and when. Our answer remains the same "where and when God calls us."

When we originally planned our sabbatical we were thinking in terms of the summer home. But God . . .

Here we are mid way through September and I have been wondering why God isn't calling? As I was having a conversation with Pastor Dave last week I felt God was telling us (and showing us) that we were to focus on families during the month of September and that is why He wasn't calling us out just yet. God really sent that message home with me over this past weekend! My, oh my did He ever! And I am so thankful!

As we all know, relationships with family "should" be all loving, supporting, understanding and forgiving! NOT!! We live in the real world filled with sin and sometimes -- just sometimes -- that isn't the case.

Leaving families behind as we do can add to that list above! This month of September has brought healing like never before! I chose to not go into detail as detail isn't the important thing. Healing is! Love is! Supporting is! Understanding is! Forgiving is!

I thank God with all my heart that His plan is the plan we have chosen to follow -- even though we can't see what is ahead we have committed ourselves to whatever His plan is!

And my, oh my are we blessed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until next time . . . how's your family? Susan and Monty

Give, Share, Prepare

The photo might be a bit difficult to read but you can atleast see the title and the pictures.

Today was the announcement that Sunday School Mission Sunday will be next week. We decided to get the entire congregation involved!

Monty and I received a donation of quite a few (lots) of toiletry bags from our local Crisis Pregnancy Center. They weren't able to use them and of course, we'll use anything. God had His own special plan for those bags!

During this week the kids and adults will be collecting trial/travel size toiletries to bring into church with them next Sunday. The Sunday School kids will then stuff all the bags with those items. This might include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, combs, brushes, deoderants, etc.

Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and had nothing from your bathroom -- NOTHING! That is what happens in a disaster and we hope to not only bring some relief with us on our next journey but also teach the kids (and adults?) about preparing, about missions and about the love of Jesus being packed away in each bag.

Be sure and stay tuned as we will have photos with the kids packing and it should be a fantastic and blessed Sunday School Missions Sunday.

How about your church? Is there something small like this that they could do?

Until next time . . . blessings and love to all. Susan and Monty

Not as old as he thought!

Monty awoke this morning singing Happy Birthday to himself and was thrilled when he realized he was a year younger than he thought!!!!

Yes, he's only 46 and thought he was 47! Born in 1964 -- you do the math!

Anyway, he had a great day. We had breakfast with his parents and were able to spend some time just sitting on our back deck, enjoying the perfect weather and nice breeze. He decided to spend some time with his best friends during the afternoon while I headed to church to work on a service project for the Sunday School kids, and the entire congregation over the next couple of weeks. It was also nice for me to get to spend some time talking with Pastor Dave (face to face instead of over the phone) which made me nearly late in getting home!

I was able to get home just in time for my mom to arrive. She had called, knowing it was Monty's birthday, and wanted to come and spend the evening with us. I got ahold of my daughter and her kids (photo) and they joined us for dinner. Luke opened our meal with his prayer from preschool using both the one for lunch and the one for snacks! A double blessing! We spent most of the time laughing with the kids and when Luke decided to sing Happy Birthday solo style to Monty it brought a combination of tears and laughter! He was so sincere I know it was the best birthday song Monty has ever had!

After dinner they decided to come back to our house and play for a short time. The kids are amazed with our dogs since they are small and their dog is a gigantically huge chocolate lab! When our dogs start running the kids crack up! The photo above was priceless as they all decided to give a thumbs up as a happy birthday sign!

Days that make us so very happy to be home with family! Days of priceless blessings that come from our most loving Father in heaven! One very blessed birthday -- number 46!!!!!

Until next time . . . cherish your own family! God gave them to you! Susan and Monty

Remembering . . . Family

You might not be able to make out the printing in this -- never mind. I want you to see the photo --- this man died 9 years ago in the towers in New York. Can you believe it's been that long? No doubt you can remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the terrible news!

After the attack one of the ways that funds were earned for the families was the selling of bracelets with the name of a victim on it. I bought one and will have it for as long as I live. After an extended period of time the names were listed online and with some research I located his family. I wrote a letter to that family -- had no other information than his name. To my shock and awe I received a letter of response from his wife! He was the father of 3 boys and worked in one of the financial offices where every single employee died! She also included the pamphlet from his funeral service, complete with his photo! Over the years this has been priceless to me. She thanked me for honoring him by wearing the bracelet with his name on it. HE is the one who deserves to be honored! I hope everyone took a moment to reflect, to remember and to pray! James DeBlase -- I never met you but I have loved you!

We spent yesterday evening with my parents and had a blast at the last summer park concert in Columbus. We somehow managed to miss every one here at home but made theirs! The most fun was just spending time with my parents and atleast one brother!

The night before we spent the evening with friends who are interested in going into missions. They have been thinking about doing so for a long time and just recently he lost his job so . . God has closed one door but opened another! I also found out what it's like to be bitten by a very large wolf spider at their home! Nailed me on the leg, left some pretty nasty teeth marks and a surrounding bruise! Think satan had something to do with that? No doubt!

And now to today --- for the first time in 5 years we were able to go to our home church picnic! It was awesome! Our neighbor, Shelley, who has been going to church with us made sure she had today off work and Monty's mother came bringing some of the best cake I've ever seen. We all had a blast visiting with so many folks and eating way too much good food! The weather was picture perfect and it felt so good to be home!

We hope all of you are enjoying your families --- remember that God divinely chose each of our families and although we all have our "issues" -- families are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until next time . . . be blessed and bless someone else. Susan and Monty

Thoughts and facts, updated

Our newly painted deck with green shutters replacing the old black ones! Finally!

Last night was another of those nights where random thoughts pounded my brain. For some reason God had me remembering every square inch of all the houses I have lived in over the years? Why? Only He knows!

Anyway, we are getting quite a few things done here at home while watching the weather and wondering how much longer we have and where God will send us next.

In the meantime . . .

It sure was nice to get a phone call from Cherie in Texas saying she and Hank missed seeing us drive through the city! We miss them too! Some folks just become family and will always be missed!

Monty is scheduled for foot surgery in a couple of weeks. Seems he must have dropped something on his big toe and broken it. When? Who knows! But a bone spur developed and then broke off leaving it very painful to bend forward. The doc says he can "clean it out" and within a couple of days he should be much better.

My youngest daughter had all of her wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and is having a couple of rough days. Wisdom isn't all its cracked up to be!

My other daughter is having some tough times at work but also learning alot in the "process." I am going to be blessed to do some babysitting for her in the meantime.

My son is doing fine. This time of year is extremely busy for the heating and cooling people.

We are going to see my parents tomorrow -- it's been awhile and too long! My dad and brother are harvesting in the fields -- about 6 weeks early due to the drought.

We have been working on cleaning out both our tool trailer and storage barn, organizing and making sense of tools and such. Not an easy job but atleast we have like items with like items and can go from there.

Our church picnic is this Sunday -- and we'll be able to attend for the first time in 5 years! The weather is forecast to be perfect -- thanks Lord! Our neighbor Shelley has been going to church with us and even took the day off to go to the picnic!

Our neighbors are awaiting some very critical health news -- they've been waiting for over a week and none of us wait well! Not with that sort of news hanging in the balance.

The summer is nearly done here -- where did it go?

Thank you Lord -- for all our blessings and for having us home for all of these things (and so many more). What an awesome God we serve!

Until next time . . . still wondering why I had to go over all the past homes? Susan and Monty

Nearly 5 years later

This morning we had the pleasure of returning to Genesis church! Pastor Dave and his congregation were instrumental in getting us started in this ministry nearly 5 years ago and it was great to return and see some old faces and also new.

When we committed to this disaster mission work we initially committed to one year! We had borrowed one of my brothers campers and were concerned as to how we would get it to Mississippi as we did not have a vehicle to pull it. Pastor Dave had volunteered their church van if someone from the congregation would volunteer to take us - and it - down south.

As I was looking for Monty after the service I was excited because I had quite a few people interested in making that drive.

Little did either of us know that God had the ultimate plan -- as always!

Monty was standing with a gentleman who was pulling a key from his key ring -- the key to a '95 Ford truck that was built to pull. In my narrow mindedness I was wondering how we would get the truck back to the gentleman after we dropped the camper! :)

He was giving the truck to us -- not wanting it to return!!! Isn't God awesome!

And here we are nearly 5 years later, still with the truck and back to Genesis with the ability to properly thank all of them for their prayers and their love and their support!

What an awesome God we serve and what a blessing that church has been to us!

Until next time . . . how will God amaze you? Susan and Monty

Waiting

Yes -- we wait! And we pray!!!!

As I write this the winds are just starting to hit the North Carolina coast and still no one knows what the results will be.

We have received many questions as to if we are going, when we are going, where we are going?

Believe me -- as soon as we know --- YOU will know!

If there is extensive damage and our assistance is needed we will be off and running -- but -- the areas must be safe -- the first responders need to be able to work and do their jobs and the entire area has to be able to accomodate volunteers. This all takes time and like I said -- when we know you WILL know.

In the meantime we all need to be praying as this isn't the only storm out there! At this point in time there are 3 more lined up and we are in the heart of the hurricane season! And Earl hasn't even decided where and how many places he will land.

We wait -- and we see where God is calling us. As we have said before and will continue to say; we have dedicated our lives to this work and in doing so we fully surrender and trust in the guidance of our Lord!

Thank you for your support, for your prayers and for those of you interested -- make sure you stay in touch because volunteers ARE going to be needed! And that means YOU!

Until next time we continue rebuilding the front door of our daughter and son in laws home and doing what we do -- helping others.

PS Monty could use some extra prayers as he fell from the ladder while we were working today and has quite a few scrapes and bruises -- the main one seems to be on one of his kidneys. God is the Almighty healer and please pray a special touch for him right now.

Until next time . . . be blessed and be ready! Susan and Monty

Open House

Very first thing -- today is the 5 year anniversary of hurricane Katrina so let's be sure and keep all those who are still working to rebuild in our prayers! Can you believe it's been 5 years?

The photo above shows you the completed work on the front of our home! The deck is now completely repainted, the shutters are up and the front door area also has a new coat of new color paint! This has been my summer project and I can now say that it is done! And from the looks of all the action in the tropics --- not a minute too soon!

Yesterday we opened our home to all our friends and family. So many folks have said they would like to get together with us while we are home and with only a limited amount of time (and not knowing when that limit is ended) we decided to host our own open house where they could stop by, eat some good food and spend some time with us and the rest of the crowd. And crowd it was! We were thrilled that so many came by! They have no idea how much it means to us! No idea! We packed the house from mid afternoon till nearly midnight and it was awesome!

The other picture is our dogs -- the morning after! They were so exhausted after trying to keep up with everyone yesterday that this morning they didn't move! And yes -- they sleep with all those blankets -- no matter what the temperature outside! Kids!!!!

And now we wait -- we watch the tropics -- and see where God will lead us next. We continue to get the questions of where we will go next and when? Watch the weather and you will know as soon as we do! God has a plan and we stay in prayer waiting to hear where and when. He is our perfect guide and we will wait . . .

Until next time . . . thanks for your prayers! Susan and Monty

Thanks Camping World

Yesterday was quite the busy day!

First of all, congrats to Tim and Jenn in Texas! It's a girl! 8 lbs. 13 ounces! And what a beauty she is -- they sent us pics and made me wish we were there!

The day started with us meeting with a group of local Pastors to share what has been going on over the past years. This is the same group that we met with before we ever started on this venture and it was good to see them again. We were asked to speak at one of them in a couple of weeks and it will be great to see everyone there again. They all played such a big part in giving us the encouragement to enter this field of disaster ministry!

From there it was off to Greenwood to meet up with my Mom and go to Camping World to use the gift certificate they gave us for being RVers of the Year. I cannot tell you how much fun we had and yet how difficult it was! Monty and I are used to doing everything we can to stretch the dollars for homeowners and "making due" in every situation possible. As I was sitting with Melinda who was helping me select new chairs for the camper it was extremely tough to realize that we could select what we wanted and not be concerned about the price!

We shopped and shopped and had 2 carts filled with things we see all the time but do without. We would pick up an item and before we knew it we had talked ourselves out of it! If it hadn't been for my Mom and her encouragement we might still be there!

By the time we finished we had literally been there all day long and laughed until we nearly cried. Camping World had no idea how much we appreciate their gift! Priceless! We now have the things that will make our lives so much easier when we are traveling and in the field! I don't know how we're going to be able to really thank them!!!!!

The first thing to start with is to thank all of YOU who voted for us to win that award! YOU started the process and we are so very grateful! As we have said before --- it is YOU who keeps us going -- through donations, through supportive calls now and then, and with your prayers! We thank you and we love you!

Until next time . . . thanks Mom! We had a blast and really needed you to be there with us!!

12 Years

Has it been 12 years?

On one hand it seems like yesterday and on the other hand it seems like a life time -- both feel good!

Yes, today is our anniversary! As I think back over these past 12 years and how they have evolved, how God has changed both of us (for the better) and how amazing this journey has been I stand in awe of His almighty plans!

We had NO idea! God did! All we knew was that we were supposed to be together. Most of the rest of the world did not agree. We went "against the grain" and trusted what God was telling us both.

I don't know of another couple who came from such opposite backgrounds, who are so different in their "paces" of life, who know each other as well and who love each other as much!

We have been through things in these past 12 years that most couples don't go through in a life time. God has taken us "through the valley of the shadow of death" when Monty had his heart attack and sustained us and brought us out on the other side of real life!

We have lived in our home, more space than the two of us need. We have lived in "144 square feet of marital bliss" and then graduated to "244 square feet of marital bliss" with our newer camper -- and survived -- thrived in all the spaces!

God has directed us in this journey of life together and our prayer? That He will continue to do so, that He will continue to bless us beyond imagination and that life will continue to be an adventure with Him at the helm!

I love you Monty and thank you for being my husband, my partner and my bestest friend in the whole wide world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Until next time . . . bless you all. Susan and Monty

Those priceless phone calls

Over the years we have orientated who knows how many teams of volunteers and met who knows how many folks who ask us "what do you need?" Our answer is -- and always will be -- the most important thing you can do is pray for us! "And when you feel that little tug to give us a call -- make the call!" It's always a God thing!

Just the other night one very special man did just that -- he made the call!

Big Joe from West Virginia was looking for someone elses phone number when he found the sheet of paper had a fold in it. When he opened the fold he found my number and decided to call and check in. It was such a blessing to hear from him and to know he still thought of us.

We haven't seen Big Joe since March of 2008 when we did the Speed Build for Ms Ollie (you can go back into the blog archives and read about it). We talked about both the Speed Builds we have done and how much we all learned with each one.

Even while Monty and I were in Texas his team built a 3rd build in March of 2009. Joe was sad as he told me that the gentleman they built that home for had passed away. We talked about all the fun and challenges of building that first one for Ms Faye.

It's amazing how God plans everything out -- to the detail -- and all we have to do is be obedient to listen and follow.

Thanks Big Joe -- for being obedient and making that call and making my day!

Until next time . . . who should you call? Susan and Monty

Down and Back -- Quickly

Sorry for the delay in letting you know what's happening here. Time once again got away from me.

We have been swamped with "things" going on. This past week we took 3 days and went to Alabama to check in with our missions training school which is also our sending agency. Thanks to my parents we were able to rent a car (can't rent if you don't own a credit card and we don't) so the trip was a bit easier. We drove the 12 hours down, stayed for a few hours and made the 12 hour trip back. The weather was less than cooperative, we hit the remnants of the tropical depression moving north through Alabama and drove through rain that made it nearly impossible to see the front of your own car! Then we hit another terrific storm in Louisville, Kentucky but were able to wait it out in one of the local truck stops.

In between time we were able to have dinner at my parents' house with one of our UMCOR superivsors, Alan, and his family. They were visiting in a city near my parents so we all got together and had a wonderful evening of stories and catching up. It was so good to see them again and difficult to once again say goodbye. Thanks to my amazing Mom who cooked dinner for all of us so we didn't have to sit in a restaurant and be looked at by the waitress wondering just how much longer we would be sitting there!

During our time at my parents we also dropped off my truck -- we have it up for sale! Ouch! I have found myself very emotionally attached to that truck and have to put being practical over being emotional! I have always kidded teams that someday my truck would grow up into a full size one -- and it did! Now it has to go and sitting at my parents house which is right in the heart of an industrial area will hopefully get that job done. (It still hurts though) :)

Today we were thrilled to attend church and have 4 generations with us -- Monty's mother, his sister, her daughter and her baby daughter! It was the first time we got to meet the new baby who is now 14 months old -- what a cutie! It was so good to have the family sitting together and thanking God for all our blessings! Hopefully they will come back sometime soon?!

This afternoon I got to spend time with my daughter and grandchildren. I hadn't seen them in a couple of weeks and it's amazing to see how quickly they change! Seeing their smiles when they realize I am there and feeling their hugs and kisses is absolutely priceless!

This week promises to be a busy one. We have trucks that need repairs and will be working on that. We have a couple of doctor appointments that are long overdue. One of my daughters has a birthday. Monty's dad has a birthday. We have an anniversary! Has it really been 12 years? I still have a front deck to paint along with shutters to put on the house. We have a dinner invite to some of our church friends house with all their family. We also have an invite to go with a group from church to some famous auction house one evening.

All that keeps the clock ticking way too fast. Time is moving way too quickly. And all the while we keep our eyes peeled to the weather -- watching the tropics, the winds and the depressions wondering which one will change into a storm?

God holds the time table and all we can do is wait for His calling, His direction and His path.

In the meantime I think we need to look up the definition for "sabbatical" as I know we aren't doing what it says we should be doing! Ha! Ha!

Until next time . . . our days are numbered and they sure do fly by too fast! Susan and Monty

Kids

Just got a few photos from the Sams Club Rally! This was one of the better ones.

Yesterday was our day to speak to all the Sunday School kids at our home Vineyard Church! What a blast! Opening up the session for questions was amazing! They were great!

We started out asking them what a disaster was and to our delight they had a good handle on the word and described different types of disasters. From there we led into how we live while in the field, what we do and what it takes to get it done and how everything is possible because of God's help and their prayers for us. We had a poster of photos and a couple of videos that really seemed to touch their hearts. It's always fun for us to share our mission and to be able to share it with children is extra special! Hopefully some of them will think more about missions and have a bit of a different thought when the term "missionary" is used.

Today we were blessed to babysit for a very special little boy. Over 7 years ago we met Rhonda at our church and it was more than obvious that if she didn't give birth soon she just might explode. The following week she did just that -- gave birth that is -- to a beautiful little boy. She was struggling to make ends meet and her job had her scheduled for quite a few Saturdays. Jordan became our "Saturday baby" and we loved it. Over the years we have always stayed in touch and see them whenever we can. Today we got the opportunity to have him spend the day with us. We took him to the local pool and watched him show us all he had learned about swimming. We all 3 "raced" from side to side and laughed so much we all had trouble getting our breath! It's just amazing to watch him grow up and it's such a blessing for us in doing so! Alot of single moms out there have trouble making ends meet, having enough time to spend on their kids and themselves and need a shoulder, a smile or just a hug. We thank God for placing them in our lives and can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us!

Until next time . . . some Mom out there could use your help! Susan and Monty

She felt as though she "won the lottery"

In her own words Trisha said she felt like she had "won the lottery" today!

Trisha is one of our next door neighbors who is unable to be outside for any period of time due to a medical condition. Her yard, shrubs, trees and things had gotten so overgrown that it was nearly impossible to even see her house. Last week Monty had stopped by to visit her and volunteered our services in getting her yard back in shape.

Amy and Rodney heard the story and wanted to get involved. Amy has a heart for missions and this is something that she feels called to do. Why not start with Trisha's house? And then they knew of another friend, Tiana, who would also like to help. And before the day was over we had the other neighbors, Jim and son Josh, who jumped in to help! The more the merrier!

We trimmed, we cut, we shaped, we dug, we pulled, we poured, we raked . . . on and on the entire day until it was transformed and a big smile was all across Trisha's face as she posed for the photo with Amy and Rodney!

During the day she was inside looking out windows as we worked and even said she felt like the queen watching us work! God's will for sure!

We all enjoyed doing this small thing for her. Amy and Rodney along with Tiana got their first experience in helping others -- just for the sake of helping -- no agenda. Tiana even got a blister -- through her gloves! Now that's some hard working!

Monty even let Josh use the blower to clean out the back of the truck when we were done and he was excited beyond words!

All just to help! All to the glory of God! And all had smiles and felt the blessing that comes from being helped and from helping!

Until next time . . . try it for yourself! You'll smile too! Susan and Monty

Rest??? Maybe August???

Can't believe it's August already!!!!!

As you can see by the pics we are doing everything we can to get ourselves ready to go back into the field when needed. I spent the entire afternoon priming our back deck--what a job! I had already used a belt sander and sanded it down to the original wood. It had never been primed and each time we painted it just peeled off -- so this time I wanted to do it right! What a thought! After this deck is completed I will move to the front one, which includes the shutters and trim around the front door. This is my "summer" project and it's going to take me all summer just to get it done! :)

Monty has been under the hood of both trucks for days now. First the old white Ford needed front end work done and now it's headed to the shop this week for transmission work! Ouch! Then the old red Ford took a dive and he's been able to do that work himself -- and work it is! He made some good progress today and it might be "done" in another day! It's part of the package when you have older vehicles!

Yesterday we spent the day in Columbus where we attended church with my parents and got to greet everyone coming in. It was great to see everyone and even greater to join them in their church picnic at the city park in the afternoon! They are all so good about keeping us in their prayers and those prayers are what keep us going!

This week we will preparing for being in our own Vineyard church Sunday. We have been asked to speak to all the Sunday School kids, the elementary age ones. We have been putting together pictures to show them a bit more about disaster ministry and all that is involved with it. It's always fun to speak to kids and open the floor for their questions! "Out of the mouths of babes."

We did receive a thank you from Janey this weekend. She thanked everyone who had worked on the rebuilding of their home. She said Logan left this world knowing their home had been restored and that Janey would be fine. The flowers from the Canadian team were beautiful and warmed her heart! Thanks team!

Rebuilding lives by rebuilding homes . . . what an awesome God we serve!

Until next time . . . remember your prayers! Susan and Monty

The end of the Rally

I promised I would tell you about our final day at the Rally in Louisville over this past weekend. It was awesome!

Saturday was the Good Sam Club Meet and Greet day. All states have representatives that volunteer and they were all set up around a huge table where folks could come and meet them and learn more about the activities within their home state, or others that they might be traveling in. I have no idea how many people were there throughout the day but it was in the thousands.

Monty and I were set up at our own table to meet and greet those who might like to know more about what we do. It was incredible! For 6 straight hours we were talking with people. Some had questions about what we do, others had thanks to give, others had volunteered someplace and wanted to share their experiences and others were interested in how they could get involved. We were overwhelmed with the thanks and hope there will be some who will be calling or emailing as soon as we head out on our next venture.

As we left at the end of the day we were mentally recharged and exhausted at the same time. It was all still rather unreal and although we aren't about the publicity it is definitely a way to get and keep the word out there that disasters aren't over with in a short time -- even if they aren't on the news anymore.

We thank all those who stopped by to see us, all those who lifted our spirits without even realizing it and all those whose smiles, handshakes and hugs melted our hearts!

Sunday morning brought us to the worship service and from there we were headed home. A mixture of emotions flooded each of us and we used the drive to sort through them. Even yesterday we were still thinking about all the amazing people we met and still wondering how we managed to win such an award and enjoy such a blessing?!

Tomorrow Monty will be conducting the funeral for his grandmother's brother. Another honor and another blessing!

Until next time . . . thanks to ALL of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For everything!!!!!!!!! Susan and Monty

Special Notice

We are home from the Rally and I will talk about that another day.

For now --- just received a phone call from Janey (for those of you who have been following us it's Janey and Logan) and Logan passed away this morning. Janey said he had not been feeling well for the past couple of weeks and this morning was his day to go and join the Lord in heaven! Please keep she and the family in your prayers. We all know that Logan had been through some terrible health problems and we thank God for allowing us to get to know and love he and Janey.

Also, while we were gone we received a call saying a member of Monty's family passed away. The family has asked Monty to officiate the funeral this Wednesday. We met with the family this afternoon to finalize some details and also ask that you keep the entire family in your prayers.

We all know our days are numbered and we should all thank God for each day we have on this earth. Although it's sad for us when a loved one passes away we are to rejoice and celebrate their life and their new life in heaven!

Until next time . . . call a family member and tell them you love them! Susan and Monty

An Amazing Honor

These past 2 days have been like a whirlwind! As you know, we are in Kentucky at the Good Sam Club annual Rally where we won the RVer of the Year award.

Yesterday we were honored to be a part of the first days activities. A tour for all those who won "best this or best that"; like Cracker Barrel being the RVers favorite sit down restaurant because everyone knows they have special parking in the rear of their places for those of us pulling campers, the Flying J truck stop for best gas, and so on. From there it was off to appetizers and then a wonderful dinner where each of those listed above received their awards.

Then it was our turn to receive our award. It was so extremely humbling! We are not nor have we ever been about awards and to receive this one, hearing them describe our work, our ministry --- it was tough to hold back the tears. The showed everyone the video we have of Ms Faye and Mike (see March of 2007 for their full story) and by the end nearly everyone else was in tears. We received a standing ovation! What an awesome God we serve!

Immediately after the dinner we were wisked away to the stadium where we were honored once again -- this time in front of who knows how many people! The spot lights blinded us while we were on stage and I think that might have been a good thing! The video of us being featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams was shown to give everyone just a taste of our ministry. Camping World took the stage as one of the major sponsors and decided to give us a nice gift certificate -- we can now replace the broken down chair and couch in our trailer! Incredible! It also meant the world to us to have Monty's parents sitting right in front for the whole thing. My parents weren't able to make it as my mother is ill -- both of us broken hearted!

Right after the honors we were all entertained by Bob Newhart! We all remembered his TVshows and seeing him in person --- especially with front row seats --- fantastic!

By the time we arrived back at our room we were exhausted mentally and emotionally but still wound for sound -- a tough set of emotions to make sense of!

This morning we were up and back at the Rally bright and early. They had a dog show that I wanted to see and we all laughed at all the categories, the dogs and their owners. Since we were unable to bring our camper we left our dogs at home and today I really missed them. I know they could have won something!? :)

After the show we grabbed lunch and headed into the room where all the vendors were set up with everything imaginable -- and some not imaginable -- needed or wanted for campers! It was alot of fun.

By the time we were finished -- and we didn't even see it all -- we had to grab a bite for dinner so we could be back for tonights entertainment ----- Tanya Tucker!! And once again -- FRONT row seats!!!

As we traveled throughout this day we were constantly stopped by folks wanting to shake our hands, give us hugs, and thank us for serving God in what we do! We were prayed for and thanked and loved on all throughout the day and into this evening. Even after the concert we had people coming up to us and going so far as to stopping us in the parking lot as we tried to leave! This is something we are not used to and admit that although it is an honor beyond description it is a bit uncomfortable. All we are doing is following the call God has placed on our lives. Our mission statement isn't very long or detailed; "help the people" --- but somehow God has managed to work through us to allow thousands to see Him at work! THAT is more than humbling!

Tomorrow we are scheduled to be at what's called "Meet and Greet" where we will be set up at a table where people can talk with us or ask questions. We do have our business cards and I did make a letter of sorts to try and describe what we actually do when we are in the field. Please pray that God will give us the words and that all we do and say will be to His glory!

People are asking how to come and help -- they are giving us their cards -- they are praying for us -- they are smiling and thanking God for the work we have been doing.

The problem?????????????? All the work has been done by YOU ---- the volunteers who have come and rolled up your sleeves and done the work! YOU have rebuilt lives by rebuilding homes and YOU should be the ones receiving this award -- the thanks -- the hugs -- the smiles and the prayers!

But I guess we'll have to do what they do elsewhere --- "we accept this award on behalf of all of YOU who weren't able to be here!"

Thank you Good Sam Club!

Until next time . . . feel better Mom! Susan and Monty

Louisville -- Day One

We made it to Louisville for the Good Sam Club RV Rally. It's the largest rally of its kind and today was the "early bird" day. It was great to finally meet some of the folks we have been talking with only by phone. They took care of getting us the hotel room and then getting us registered. We are now "official" with name tags and a parking pass!

We didn't have much time to do anything else but we did get a quick stroll through the building housing the most amazing RVs ever -- the ones you drive! Some of them are longer than our house!

There is so much to see and tomorrow is a very busy day for us. It is the opening day and we are to be in attendance for the opening tour of the grounds. From there we have appetizers and then dinner and then the awards ceremony. They had asked if we had any videos of disaster work and we provided them with two. They will review them in the morning and we'll see what they think. The entertainment to close out the evening is comedian Bob Newhart. Both Monty's parents and my parents are making the drive down here and we are so thankful that they will share this moment of honor with us. We are humbled by this award and pray everyone here will see the blessings that come from volunteering and how we are rebuilding lives by rebuilding homes! Publicity can be a good thing to keep awareness levels high but it's something we have never sought out. This entire mission we are on is NOT about us but about the Lord and letting him work through us and all the volunteers we work with! Pray that is the end result!

We did get a phone call from Texas as we were driving. Ben, the camp manager at the Presbyterian camp is back to volunteer again! It was so good to hear from him and it made me miss seeing him and his smile!

I also talked with our UMCOR supervisors in Texas yesterday. They tell me work has resumed at Rosaland's house and she should be done very soon. Ms Joyce is done -- except for Ben taking her special prayer bench and planning on rebuilding it for her --- which will be a dream come true for her!

We thank you for your continued support and please pray that we are able to reach the multitudes while we are here -- with the blessings of God that will touch their hearts and move them to reach out and help others in their time of need!

Until next time . . . blessings to all of you! Susan and Monty

Preparations

If you look really close you can see one of our hummingbirds off to the left of the feeder. They swarm this one and the one in the back, not even caring if we are sitting out next to them -- one of the things that's nice about being home. Just one!

These early days of this week are being spent preparing for the RV Rally being held in Louisville, KY this week. Since we won the RVers of the year we have some responsibilities to fulfill. It was our hope and plan to be taking our newly rebuilt camper trailer and parking in the number one spot -- but sometimes plan B has to be put into motion. This is one of those times. Monty's '95 Ford that we use to pull the trailer has major front end and engine problems and will be in the shop for quite some time. It's what happens with older vehicles and thankfully we have a team of local guys who take care of our vehicles for us. They said it was a miracle we even made it back from picking it up at Elkhart last week! God is in the business of miracles so . . . thank you Lord!

Today I spent quite a bit of time at the church office copying a newsletter of sorts. We were asked if we had a brochure of any kind and since it takes money to do such a thing we decided to create a letter with basic information describing what we do and how we are supported. Since we have absolutely no idea how many people to expect during the "meet and greet" on Saturday I made about 2500 copies. It would be nice to run out in this case! Time will tell.

Thursday night is the Awards night and we have no idea what to expect. Both our parents are making the trip and we are honored to accept this award. They plan to show a couple of videos that we have to explain disaster missions. Should be a great evening and alot of fun even if we don't consider ourselves as "campers" or RVers.

Yesterday was alot of fun for me personally -- I was honored to preach the sermon at our home church! Pastor's daughter is in labor and we are all awaiting the news that this baby has finally arrived. With him needing to focus on family it was an honor for me to deliver a message. I think everyone must have been okay with "third string" as they ran out of CDs to make copies on -- or else they just had a few CDs on hand! :)

And yes, we are still awaiting word on this baby. It's their first and they made the decision to not know ahead of time if its a boy or girl. Whichever it is -- it is taking its sweet time and mom is being a real trooper in all this! Please keep all of them in your prayers!

Until next time . . . speedy delivery Lord, speedy and safe delivery! Susan and Monty

Plan B

As some of you might know, next week is The Rally! Good Sam Club's largest RV rally in the US and the club that will be honoring us with the "RVer of the Year" award. It's being held in Louisville, KY which is only a couple of hours from us here at home. We've known about this since last Sept and didn't know for sure if we would make it.

Since it falls in our sabbatical time we have been putting things together to leave next week. With the awesome news of the camper being repaired beyond our dreams we thought we were set to roll. Think again! Now Monty's truck, the one that pulls the trailer, has major mechanical problems! Major! We knew it was going to need some "help" but nothing like this and not at this time. So . . . plan B is in effect. We contacted the Rally reps and told them we could not make it with our trailer. They stepped up and we will now be staying in a hotel nearby and once again our dog sitter is on hold waiting to hear when she needs to come and stay at the house! Isn't God amazing! He knew all along that we needed the "rest" that will come with not hauling the trailer, not needing to keep watch over the dogs and not putting the extra stress on the trailer!

So --- we are leaving next week and are looking forward to meeting thousands of folks and making some new friends! Please keep us in your prayers for safe travel and that God will use us to reach out and spread His plan for our lives!

In the meantime days go by along with the time. Yesterday I spent the day with my mom, a real treat! I need to do it more often and hopefully will! As usual, we laughed together and cried together -- God blessed us each with the gift of doing both easily.

Monty spent the afternoon with some guy friends from church and really had a good time! He needed that as much as I needed my mom!

He also spent time getting this computer ready for me. Mine died -- really died! We have it with one of our friends who will hopefully be able to fix it but in the meantime I have "confiscated" Monty's. It's amazing how we get used to our own and changing is tough! Of course that has nothing to do with aging!! :)

I also made a hospital visit yesterday while with my mom. One of our church friends took a terrible fall a couple of days ago and managed to break both arms! Yes, both! She had surgery yesterday to rebuild her shattered right shoulder and see what they could do with the broken left one. And all she was worried about was how she could still pray for her friend at church and who would pick up the bagels for Sunday morning! Now that's a heart of service and love for others! Please keep Jeri in your prayers!

We thank you for ALL of your prayers!

Until next time . . . bless another today! Susan and Monty

PS I got an email saying Collier and Justine's house is nearing a House Blessing! Praise the Lord!

God's Priceless Provision

14 hours after we started this day we are still in shock. We shouldn't be -- God promised us He would take care of us when He called us into this disaster ministry. He always has, He's never gone back on that promise. So why are we in shock?

Isn't a miracle just an answered prayer?

Isn't God in the business of sometimes answering prayers above and beyond anything we could imagine?

Today He did just that -- WAY above and WAY beyond!

If you have been keeping up with us you know our camper trailer was damaged in a storm while we were in Texas. The insurance company totalled it out as they said the damage was more than 80% of the value of the trailer - and then they cancelled the insurance on it. We had a couple of estimates and realized that they were way out of our ballpark. We weren't sure what we were going to do.

And then --- don't our Moms always have the answers? Mine did! She reminded me that we are the RVers of the year and that we might want to contact them and just let them know what was happening with us. Why not? One never knows.

Long story short -- they asked us to bring it to the plant which is located nearly 4 1/2 hours from us. We did that only days after coming back here for our sabbatical. It's been there for over a month and Monday they called to say it ready today.

We headed out early this morning and when we arrived we were shocked -- in a really good way. Ever seen the show "Overhauled"? We were overhauled!

Our much used trailer now has a brand new roof, complete with rafters and every inch caulked. That includes all new vent hatches on top and a new TV antenna. The ceilings inside are all new along with lights. They took care of every little detail -- way beyond what we could have imagined. The old nasty carpeting that we had removed months ago -- now new carpet has been installed. The damaged piece of siding on the exterior has been replaced with new. The broken window latch -- which is the fire escape window -- is no longer broken. Our tires and wheels won't be subjected to blowouts anymore -- new! The exterior walls and ceiling on the slide are also new -- no more leaks to be concerned about. There might even be more but I can't remember and when we got home it was dark so I'm excited to open it up tomorrow and start moving our things back in and see what else I find.

It was so exciting to meet the men and women responsible for all the work. It brought tears to our eyes and when they smiled and hugged each of us it only brought more tears of joy!

When we are in the field we live in this trailer 24/7 -- we don't "camp." When things begin to go wrong and need repairs we do the best we can. But when the big things start happening it gets extremely tough. What this company and these people did is priceless! Until we reached home on June 4th of this year we had lived in our camper day after day after day since January 2008! And now when we start out on the next adventure God has for us we will be able to go worry free when it comes to living!

I just can't find the words to express how I feel. When we go in and rebuild folks homes they try and thank us and can't find the words and now I know how they feel.

God is such an awesome God and we are so thankful to Him for His constant provision! Just when I think I've seen so many miracles He steps in and reminds me that He is all powerful and with Him nothing is impossible.

To those of you who have kept us and this trailer problem in your prayers -- we deeply appreciate each and every prayer and please know that God heard each one and acted on each one -- in a huge way!

What an awesome God we serve! How blessed we are to serve Him!

Until next time . . . may God bless those who made this possible! Susan and Monty

She's my youngest?

Tomorrow she turns 28 -- the age I was when she was born -- and she's my youngest! My how time flies -- but -- Happy Birthday Lindsay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of time -- these past days have been a bit difficult for me -- age isn't helping either.

If you are avid readers of our blog you remember a few months ago when I took a rather nasty fall from our camper trailer -- when preparing to walk my dogs they took a hard right out of the trailer door without telling me and I managed to fall down all the steps -- sideways -- turning a complete flip. And now . . . time has not helped me heal -- nor have my construction "habits." I saw the xrays of my neck and upper back this morning and it isn't pretty but it's not anything that weeks and weeks of chiropractic adjustments won't take care of. I guess that explains the excruciating headaches, feeling off balance, having blurred vision and some rather nasty pain. Thank the Lord for a wonderful chiropractor just around the corner! As they say, "time heals all" and thankfully we are home for some "time."

Yesterday was a treat for us as our neighbor, Shelley, went to church with us. We felt bad for not asking her sooner but it was all in God's timing. Hopefully she will be off work and able to go with us more often.

We are still keeping in touch with our friend, Jeremy, who is undergoing treatments for his brain cancer. Next time they are down here from Indianapolis we can hopefully get together and meet his wife and 2 children.

Wednesday we will be heading back to the Elkhart area to pick up our camper trailer. If you remember we had to have the entire roof replaced due to some storm damage while we were in Texas. It's been up there for nearly a month and we are excited to see the finished product. The thought of no more leaks is a good thought!

Each day of being home to get caught up on things around the house, see friends and family and squeeze in some rest is such a blessing! We thank those of you who continue to help us financially. In these tough times with our economy we realize it might not be easy to continue helping us but without you . . . I don't want to think about that! Thank you so very much!

Until next time . . . be blessed and be a blessing. Susan and Monty

A meeting awaits

Referring to my last blog entry -- we've been in touch with Jeremy through email and are making plans to get together. He, his wife and their 2 children will be moving to Indianapolis to stay in a condo (donated for their stay) and will be making the hour long trip back and forth for his treatments here. We will be getting together as soon as their time allows and we look forward to that meeting. Somehow I think God is getting ready to expand our family once again.

Once again -- be sure and listen closely the next time God nudges you to do something that you wonder why in the world He is asking you to do that! He is definitely nudging you into a new found blessing.

Until next time . . . help a stranger, gain a friend. Susan and Monty

No Strangers

Yesterday Monty and I were headed to Columbus to spend the day with my family at a lot my brother and sister in law just purchased. It was going to be a relaxing day just sitting outside visiting with each other and enjoying some good food.

God stepped in very early in the day!

Normally I have been cooking since we've been home -- breakfast being alot of fun. Yesterday we decided to stop by Bob Evans for a treat. Nothing really special, just someone else cooking for a change.

God and His Almighty plans -- and Monty with his amazing obedience!

As we were sitting at our table we noticed 3 young men at the table next to us. We couldn't help overhearing bits and pieces of their conversation -- all mixed with thoughts of God and the Holy Spirit. Monty was sitting closest to them and now I realize he probably didn't hear one word I was saying as he had a discerning ear leaned over to those young men. He was listening to the urging of our Father.

At the end of our meal he just abruptly got up and took the one remaining seat at the table with the young men. He introduced himself and for the next nearly 10 minutes they were totally captivated by his words to them. It was amazing to watch -- it brought tears to my eyes and I didn't even know what they were saying!

At the end of their conversation he made sure they each had one of our business cards. He then said he wanted to pray for them. Four grown men sitting in the middle of Bob Evans, hands clasped together, heads bowed and prayer going up to an amazing Lord. I watched the heads of others turn and also bow -- and they couldn't hear any of the words either but the words didn't matter.

We left the restaurant and were in the truck driving out of the parking lot when the 3 young men approached Monty's side of the truck, smiling from ear to ear, saying they wanted to deeply thank him for taking the time to come and talk with them and how much they appreciated it. They all talked for a few more minutes when they asked if they could pray for him! And pray they did! Somehow God had tuned them in to exactly what to pray for -- and they didn't even know Monty! It was so powerful that I wondered if he could concentrate on the road enough to drive!

I once again found myself in awe -- at how well Monty listens to that still small voice of God when He tells him to go and talk with folks he's never met and who he knows nothing about! I also smiled inside as I realized just how that obedience had filled Monty with emotions that I hadn't seen in awhile -- I think the God ordered rest is helping!

And then came today when I finally got around to checking email! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the young men had emailed a thank you for yesterday. He explained that he was in the army and stationed in New York. The reason he and his friends were here in Bloomington, Indiana? He has been diagnosed with brain cancer and is here for special treatments!!!!!!!!!!!!

My jaw dropped to the table, my heart both sank and smiled!

"What if" Monty had not followed that tug from the Lord and not spoken to them?
"What if" Monty had not prayed with them?
"What if" whatever he said to them he had not said?

The Bible is very plain and very adament about telling us to reach out to others, to do what we can whenever we can, wherever we can.

Are there strangers in this world? No! Just folks we haven't met yet!

This was NOT a "chance" meeting! This was NOT a "coincidence"!
This was GOD!
We will most definitely be keeping in touch with this young man!

I now know why God told us to be home at this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you reached out to a "stranger" lately? Doing so just might change both your lives!!!!!!!!!
Until next time . . . I thank God for the husband I am blessed with! Susan and Monty

1 month already?

Yep -- this is resting!??
Monty worked on mowers and got them both working -- one of our neighbors donated a new blade and after he did some major repairs on the old back up mower and got it working he decided to "test it" by mowing the back yard today! The neighbors had to take a seat as mowing is something he does NOT enjoy and something I do! And when he even got the weed eater out and not only did ours and 2 neighbors but took to the weeds in the street cracks we all began to worry! :)
I have spent the past week sanding our decks -- using a belt sander to get through the peeling layer after layer of paint! This is the task I wanted to take on and thanks to some perfect weather it's actually been fun for me. The back one is done and the front only needs the floor done and they will both be ready for primer and paint!
We've been busy but we've been having fun getting things running and looking like someone actually lives here.
Last night we got to see the grandkids again when our daughter called for a decorating opinion which she and Monty were in total agreement on! The rug had to go! We all had a laugh over it and the kids are always fun to spend time with.
This evening we are headed to some friends who called with a major mold problem in their basement. Since she is pregnant this is a priority so off we go to assess the situation and see what needs to be done.
What we can't believe is that one month ago tomorrow we left Texas! The time has flown by and before we know it our 3 months will be up and off we will go -- where? Just listen to the hurricane forecast and watch what happens and you will know when we know.
In the meantime -- we've got a bit more work to do and a bit more visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
Until next time . . . have you helped your neighbor with anything lately? Susan and Monty
