One Hundred Sixty Nine !!!

Tissues, bars of soap, body wash (mens and womens), shampoo, razors, toothbrushes with toothpaste, wet wipes --- and so much more!

Sunday School Missions Day was a HUGE success with a total of 169 toiletry bags packed full for Monty and I to take with us on our next journey! What a blessing these will be for those who have lost it all! Not only the things inside but the love that was packed right along side everything else! Priceless!

The items came pouring in with a donation from a local store that sent it over the top! The kids took everything and sorted like with like before starting an assembly line that many of them made repeated trips through. Some were still working long past the time for Sunday School to end. And a few parents even got in the act and caught the contagiousness of the love and laughter. One little boy even brought his own greeting cards and wanted to make sure that I knew that one family would get the most special bag of all -- his! A mission mind packed inside such a small package!

After seeing the huge outpouring of love from our little church Monty said he wants to have the next project be a fund raiser for a semi truck so we can haul everything!!! It brought quite the laugh but somehow I wonder . . . the little church that could?! No one told them they were too small, that there weren't enough members to make a difference, that they didn't have the money, etc. They believed God for a miracle and as always -- God came through and they will ALL be blessed!

We are so grateful, so overwhelmed and so loved! Amazing!

He wants to shout it to the world!

Pastor Gerald Martinez of Joshua's Vineyard Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico gave
us permission to use his full name and to tell his story -- as far as we know it!

A few days ago we received an email that really touched our hearts -- especially Monty's. Pastor Gerald is going through treatments for hepatitis C. Monty has been there and in fact, was one of the first in the nation pronounced "cured." Yes -- cured! Not in the sense of being in remission. The disease is gone -- never to return!

Pastor Gerald is going through this same treatment. It's an 11 month treatment that combines oral medication and shots that one must learn to give themselves. Not an easy treatment and the doctors told us it's equally as rough as chemotherapy! They weren't kidding!

Pastor Gerald started out with his viral load (the amount of virus in his bloodstream and thus his liver) at 25 million -- it should be zero!

When Monty spoke with him the other day they were awaiting the results of testing that is done at the 12 week period. At this point in the treatment you are experiencing some really severe and difficult side effects. Pastor Gerald was a bit "down" and needed the lifting up that Monty was able to give him. It always helps us when we can speak with someone who has been through what we are going through! God works that way and it's amazing!

This morning Pastor Gerald called to give Monty the results of that test. His viral load is 24!!!!!! He was thrilled and so thankful for all the prayers that have been prayed for him. Monty spoke with him at length and told him about this blog. Pastor Gerald said he wanted to shout it to the world and needed ALL the prayers he could get!

So here we are --- let's all get in prayer for this Pastor and for anyone else going through a disease of any kind. We don't need to know the details of the disease -- we know God who is our Almighty healer! He knows the needs and all we need to do is pray!

We thank our own Pastor Dave for sending us the email about Pastor Gerald and we thank God for the healing that has already taken place and we thank Him ahead of time for the healing we know will take place in the future!

In the meantime -- Monty has another life long friend that he hasn't even met in person!

What an awesome God we serve!

God's Plan

We've had alot of questions as to where we are going next and when. Our answer remains the same "where and when God calls us."

When we originally planned our sabbatical we were thinking in terms of the summer home. But God . . .

Here we are mid way through September and I have been wondering why God isn't calling? As I was having a conversation with Pastor Dave last week I felt God was telling us (and showing us) that we were to focus on families during the month of September and that is why He wasn't calling us out just yet. God really sent that message home with me over this past weekend! My, oh my did He ever! And I am so thankful!

As we all know, relationships with family "should" be all loving, supporting, understanding and forgiving! NOT!! We live in the real world filled with sin and sometimes -- just sometimes -- that isn't the case.

Leaving families behind as we do can add to that list above! This month of September has brought healing like never before! I chose to not go into detail as detail isn't the important thing. Healing is! Love is! Supporting is! Understanding is! Forgiving is!

I thank God with all my heart that His plan is the plan we have chosen to follow -- even though we can't see what is ahead we have committed ourselves to whatever His plan is!

And my, oh my are we blessed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give, Share, Prepare

Today was the announcement that Sunday School Mission Sunday will be next week. We decided to get the entire congregation involved!

Monty and I received a donation of quite a few (lots) of toiletry bags from our local Crisis Pregnancy Center. They weren't able to use them and of course, we'll use anything. God had His own special plan for those bags!

During this week the kids and adults will be collecting trial/travel size toiletries to bring into church with them next Sunday. The Sunday School kids will then stuff all the bags with those items. This might include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, combs, brushes, deoderants, etc.

Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and had nothing from your bathroom -- NOTHING! That is what happens in a disaster and we hope to not only bring some relief with us on our next journey but also teach the kids (and adults?) about preparing, about missions and about the love of Jesus being packed away in each bag.

Not as old as he thought!

Monty awoke this morning singing Happy Birthday to himself and was thrilled when he realized he was a year younger than he thought!!!!

Yes, he's only 46 and thought he was 47! Born in 1964 -- you do the math!

Anyway, he had a great day. We had breakfast with his parents and were able to spend some time just sitting on our back deck, enjoying the perfect weather and nice breeze. He decided to spend some time with his best friends during the afternoon while I headed to church to work on a service project for the Sunday School kids, and the entire congregation over the next couple of weeks. It was also nice for me to get to spend some time talking with Pastor Dave (face to face instead of over the phone) which made me nearly late in getting home!

I was able to get home just in time for my mom to arrive. She had called, knowing it was Monty's birthday, and wanted to come and spend the evening with us. I got ahold of my daughter and her kids (photo) and they joined us for dinner. Luke opened our meal with his prayer from preschool using both the one for lunch and the one for snacks! A double blessing! We spent most of the time laughing with the kids and when Luke decided to sing Happy Birthday solo style to Monty it brought a combination of tears and laughter! He was so sincere I know it was the best birthday song Monty has ever had!

After dinner they decided to come back to our house and play for a short time. The kids are amazed with our dogs since they are small and their dog is a gigantically huge chocolate lab! When our dogs start running the kids crack up! The photo above was priceless as they all decided to give a thumbs up as a happy birthday sign!

Days that make us so very happy to be home with family! Days of priceless blessings that come from our most loving Father in heaven! One very blessed birthday -- number 46!!!!!

Remembering . . . Family

You might not be able to make out the printing in this -- never mind. I want you to see the photo --- this man died 9 years ago in the towers in New York. Can you believe it's been that long? No doubt you can remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the terrible news!

After the attack one of the ways that funds were earned for the families was the selling of bracelets with the name of a victim on it. I bought one and will have it for as long as I live. After an extended period of time the names were listed online and with some research I located his family. I wrote a letter to that family -- had no other information than his name. To my shock and awe I received a letter of response from his wife! He was the father of 3 boys and worked in one of the financial offices where every single employee died! She also included the pamphlet from his funeral service, complete with his photo! Over the years this has been priceless to me. She thanked me for honoring him by wearing the bracelet with his name on it. HE is the one who deserves to be honored! I hope everyone took a moment to reflect, to remember and to pray! James DeBlase -- I never met you but I have loved you!

We spent yesterday evening with my parents and had a blast at the last summer park concert in Columbus. We somehow managed to miss every one here at home but made theirs! The most fun was just spending time with my parents and atleast one brother!

The night before we spent the evening with friends who are interested in going into missions. They have been thinking about doing so for a long time and just recently he lost his job so . . God has closed one door but opened another! I also found out what it's like to be bitten by a very large wolf spider at their home! Nailed me on the leg, left some pretty nasty teeth marks and a surrounding bruise! Think satan had something to do with that? No doubt!

And now to today --- for the first time in 5 years we were able to go to our home church picnic! It was awesome! Our neighbor, Shelley, who has been going to church with us made sure she had today off work and Monty's mother came bringing some of the best cake I've ever seen. We all had a blast visiting with so many folks and eating way too much good food! The weather was picture perfect and it felt so good to be home!

We hope all of you are enjoying your families --- remember that God divinely chose each of our families and although we all have our "issues" -- families are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts and facts, updated

Our newly painted deck with green shutters replacing the old black ones! Finally!

Last night was another of those nights where random thoughts pounded my brain. For some reason God had me remembering every square inch of all the houses I have lived in over the years? Why? Only He knows!

Anyway, we are getting quite a few things done here at home while watching the weather and wondering how much longer we have and where God will send us next.

In the meantime . . .

It sure was nice to get a phone call from Cherie in Texas saying she and Hank missed seeing us drive through the city! We miss them too! Some folks just become family and will always be missed!

Monty is scheduled for foot surgery in a couple of weeks. Seems he must have dropped something on his big toe and broken it. When? Who knows! But a bone spur developed and then broke off leaving it very painful to bend forward. The doc says he can "clean it out" and within a couple of days he should be much better.

My youngest daughter had all of her wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and is having a couple of rough days. Wisdom isn't all its cracked up to be!

My other daughter is having some tough times at work but also learning alot in the "process." I am going to be blessed to do some babysitting for her in the meantime.

My son is doing fine. This time of year is extremely busy for the heating and cooling people.

We are going to see my parents tomorrow -- it's been awhile and too long! My dad and brother are harvesting in the fields -- about 6 weeks early due to the drought.

We have been working on cleaning out both our tool trailer and storage barn, organizing and making sense of tools and such. Not an easy job but atleast we have like items with like items and can go from there.

Our church picnic is this Sunday -- and we'll be able to attend for the first time in 5 years! The weather is forecast to be perfect -- thanks Lord! Our neighbor Shelley has been going to church with us and even took the day off to go to the picnic!

Our neighbors are awaiting some very critical health news -- they've been waiting for over a week and none of us wait well! Not with that sort of news hanging in the balance.

The summer is nearly done here -- where did it go?

Thank you Lord -- for all our blessings and for having us home for all of these things (and so many more). What an awesome God we serve!

Nearly 5 years later

This morning we had the pleasure of returning to Genesis church! Pastor Dave and his congregation were instrumental in getting us started in this ministry nearly 5 years ago and it was great to return and see some old faces and also new.

When we committed to this disaster mission work we initially committed to one year! We had borrowed one of my brothers campers and were concerned as to how we would get it to Mississippi as we did not have a vehicle to pull it. Pastor Dave had volunteered their church van if someone from the congregation would volunteer to take us - and it - down south.

As I was looking for Monty after the service I was excited because I had quite a few people interested in making that drive.

Little did either of us know that God had the ultimate plan -- as always!

Monty was standing with a gentleman who was pulling a key from his key ring -- the key to a '95 Ford truck that was built to pull. In my narrow mindedness I was wondering how we would get the truck back to the gentleman after we dropped the camper! :)

He was giving the truck to us -- not wanting it to return!!! Isn't God awesome!

And here we are nearly 5 years later, still with the truck and back to Genesis with the ability to properly thank all of them for their prayers and their love and their support!

What an awesome God we serve and what a blessing that church has been to us!

Waiting

Yes -- we wait! And we pray!!!!

As I write this the winds are just starting to hit the North Carolina coast and still no one knows what the results will be.

We have received many questions as to if we are going, when we are going, where we are going?

Believe me -- as soon as we know --- YOU will know!

If there is extensive damage and our assistance is needed we will be off and running -- but -- the areas must be safe -- the first responders need to be able to work and do their jobs and the entire area has to be able to accomodate volunteers. This all takes time and like I said -- when we know you WILL know.

In the meantime we all need to be praying as this isn't the only storm out there! At this point in time there are 3 more lined up and we are in the heart of the hurricane season! And Earl hasn't even decided where and how many places he will land.

We wait -- and we see where God is calling us. As we have said before and will continue to say; we have dedicated our lives to this work and in doing so we fully surrender and trust in the guidance of our Lord!

Thank you for your support, for your prayers and for those of you interested -- make sure you stay in touch because volunteers ARE going to be needed! And that means YOU!

Open House

Very first thing -- today is the 5 year anniversary of hurricane Katrina so let's be sure and keep all those who are still working to rebuild in our prayers! Can you believe it's been 5 years?

The photo above shows you the completed work on the front of our home! The deck is now completely repainted, the shutters are up and the front door area also has a new coat of new color paint! This has been my summer project and I can now say that it is done! And from the looks of all the action in the tropics --- not a minute too soon!

Yesterday we opened our home to all our friends and family. So many folks have said they would like to get together with us while we are home and with only a limited amount of time (and not knowing when that limit is ended) we decided to host our own open house where they could stop by, eat some good food and spend some time with us and the rest of the crowd. And crowd it was! We were thrilled that so many came by! They have no idea how much it means to us! No idea! We packed the house from mid afternoon till nearly midnight and it was awesome!

The other picture is our dogs -- the morning after! They were so exhausted after trying to keep up with everyone yesterday that this morning they didn't move! And yes -- they sleep with all those blankets -- no matter what the temperature outside! Kids!!!!

And now we wait -- we watch the tropics -- and see where God will lead us next. We continue to get the questions of where we will go next and when? Watch the weather and you will know as soon as we do! God has a plan and we stay in prayer waiting to hear where and when. He is our perfect guide and we will wait . . .

Thanks Camping World

Yesterday was quite the busy day!

First of all, congrats to Tim and Jenn in Texas! It's a girl! 8 lbs. 13 ounces! And what a beauty she is -- they sent us pics and made me wish we were there!

The day started with us meeting with a group of local Pastors to share what has been going on over the past years. This is the same group that we met with before we ever started on this venture and it was good to see them again. We were asked to speak at one of them in a couple of weeks and it will be great to see everyone there again. They all played such a big part in giving us the encouragement to enter this field of disaster ministry!

From there it was off to Greenwood to meet up with my Mom and go to Camping World to use the gift certificate they gave us for being RVers of the Year. I cannot tell you how much fun we had and yet how difficult it was! Monty and I are used to doing everything we can to stretch the dollars for homeowners and "making due" in every situation possible. As I was sitting with Melinda who was helping me select new chairs for the camper it was extremely tough to realize that we could select what we wanted and not be concerned about the price!

We shopped and shopped and had 2 carts filled with things we see all the time but do without. We would pick up an item and before we knew it we had talked ourselves out of it! If it hadn't been for my Mom and her encouragement we might still be there!

By the time we finished we had literally been there all day long and laughed until we nearly cried. Camping World had no idea how much we appreciate their gift! Priceless! We now have the things that will make our lives so much easier when we are traveling and in the field! I don't know how we're going to be able to really thank them!!!!!

The first thing to start with is to thank all of YOU who voted for us to win that award! YOU started the process and we are so very grateful! As we have said before --- it is YOU who keeps us going -- through donations, through supportive calls now and then, and with your prayers! We thank you and we love you!

12 Years

Has it been 12 years?

On one hand it seems like yesterday and on the other hand it seems like a life time -- both feel good!

Yes, today is our anniversary! As I think back over these past 12 years and how they have evolved, how God has changed both of us (for the better) and how amazing this journey has been I stand in awe of His almighty plans!

We had NO idea! God did! All we knew was that we were supposed to be together. Most of the rest of the world did not agree. We went "against the grain" and trusted what God was telling us both.

I don't know of another couple who came from such opposite backgrounds, who are so different in their "paces" of life, who know each other as well and who love each other as much!

We have been through things in these past 12 years that most couples don't go through in a life time. God has taken us "through the valley of the shadow of death" when Monty had his heart attack and sustained us and brought us out on the other side of real life!

We have lived in our home, more space than the two of us need. We have lived in "144 square feet of marital bliss" and then graduated to "244 square feet of marital bliss" with our newer camper -- and survived -- thrived in all the spaces!

God has directed us in this journey of life together and our prayer? That He will continue to do so, that He will continue to bless us beyond imagination and that life will continue to be an adventure with Him at the helm!

I love you Monty and thank you for being my husband, my partner and my bestest friend in the whole wide world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those priceless phone calls

Over the years we have orientated who knows how many teams of volunteers and met who knows how many folks who ask us "what do you need?" Our answer is -- and always will be -- the most important thing you can do is pray for us! "And when you feel that little tug to give us a call -- make the call!" It's always a God thing!

Just the other night one very special man did just that -- he made the call!

Big Joe from West Virginia was looking for someone elses phone number when he found the sheet of paper had a fold in it. When he opened the fold he found my number and decided to call and check in. It was such a blessing to hear from him and to know he still thought of us.

We haven't seen Big Joe since March of 2008 when we did the Speed Build for Ms Ollie (you can go back into the blog archives and read about it). We talked about both the Speed Builds we have done and how much we all learned with each one.

Even while Monty and I were in Texas his team built a 3rd build in March of 2009. Joe was sad as he told me that the gentleman they built that home for had passed away. We talked about all the fun and challenges of building that first one for Ms Faye.

It's amazing how God plans everything out -- to the detail -- and all we have to do is be obedient to listen and follow.

Thanks Big Joe -- for being obedient and making that call and making my day!

Down and Back -- Quickly

Sorry for the delay in letting you know what's happening here. Time once again got away from me.

We have been swamped with "things" going on. This past week we took 3 days and went to Alabama to check in with our missions training school which is also our sending agency. Thanks to my parents we were able to rent a car (can't rent if you don't own a credit card and we don't) so the trip was a bit easier. We drove the 12 hours down, stayed for a few hours and made the 12 hour trip back. The weather was less than cooperative, we hit the remnants of the tropical depression moving north through Alabama and drove through rain that made it nearly impossible to see the front of your own car! Then we hit another terrific storm in Louisville, Kentucky but were able to wait it out in one of the local truck stops.

In between time we were able to have dinner at my parents' house with one of our UMCOR superivsors, Alan, and his family. They were visiting in a city near my parents so we all got together and had a wonderful evening of stories and catching up. It was so good to see them again and difficult to once again say goodbye. Thanks to my amazing Mom who cooked dinner for all of us so we didn't have to sit in a restaurant and be looked at by the waitress wondering just how much longer we would be sitting there!

During our time at my parents we also dropped off my truck -- we have it up for sale! Ouch! I have found myself very emotionally attached to that truck and have to put being practical over being emotional! I have always kidded teams that someday my truck would grow up into a full size one -- and it did! Now it has to go and sitting at my parents house which is right in the heart of an industrial area will hopefully get that job done. (It still hurts though) :)

Today we were thrilled to attend church and have 4 generations with us -- Monty's mother, his sister, her daughter and her baby daughter! It was the first time we got to meet the new baby who is now 14 months old -- what a cutie! It was so good to have the family sitting together and thanking God for all our blessings! Hopefully they will come back sometime soon?!

This afternoon I got to spend time with my daughter and grandchildren. I hadn't seen them in a couple of weeks and it's amazing to see how quickly they change! Seeing their smiles when they realize I am there and feeling their hugs and kisses is absolutely priceless!

This week promises to be a busy one. We have trucks that need repairs and will be working on that. We have a couple of doctor appointments that are long overdue. One of my daughters has a birthday. Monty's dad has a birthday. We have an anniversary! Has it really been 12 years? I still have a front deck to paint along with shutters to put on the house. We have a dinner invite to some of our church friends house with all their family. We also have an invite to go with a group from church to some famous auction house one evening.

All that keeps the clock ticking way too fast. Time is moving way too quickly. And all the while we keep our eyes peeled to the weather -- watching the tropics, the winds and the depressions wondering which one will change into a storm?

God holds the time table and all we can do is wait for His calling, His direction and His path.

In the meantime I think we need to look up the definition for "sabbatical" as I know we aren't doing what it says we should be doing! Ha! Ha!

Kids

Just got a few photos from the Sams Club Rally! This was one of the better ones.

Yesterday was our day to speak to all the Sunday School kids at our home Vineyard Church! What a blast! Opening up the session for questions was amazing! They were great!

We started out asking them what a disaster was and to our delight they had a good handle on the word and described different types of disasters. From there we led into how we live while in the field, what we do and what it takes to get it done and how everything is possible because of God's help and their prayers for us. We had a poster of photos and a couple of videos that really seemed to touch their hearts. It's always fun for us to share our mission and to be able to share it with children is extra special! Hopefully some of them will think more about missions and have a bit of a different thought when the term "missionary" is used.

Today we were blessed to babysit for a very special little boy. Over 7 years ago we met Rhonda at our church and it was more than obvious that if she didn't give birth soon she just might explode. The following week she did just that -- gave birth that is -- to a beautiful little boy. She was struggling to make ends meet and her job had her scheduled for quite a few Saturdays. Jordan became our "Saturday baby" and we loved it. Over the years we have always stayed in touch and see them whenever we can. Today we got the opportunity to have him spend the day with us. We took him to the local pool and watched him show us all he had learned about swimming. We all 3 "raced" from side to side and laughed so much we all had trouble getting our breath! It's just amazing to watch him grow up and it's such a blessing for us in doing so! Alot of single moms out there have trouble making ends meet, having enough time to spend on their kids and themselves and need a shoulder, a smile or just a hug. We thank God for placing them in our lives and can't wait to see what the future holds for all of us!

She felt as though she "won the lottery"

In her own words Trisha said she felt like she had "won the lottery" today!

Trisha is one of our next door neighbors who is unable to be outside for any period of time due to a medical condition. Her yard, shrubs, trees and things had gotten so overgrown that it was nearly impossible to even see her house. Last week Monty had stopped by to visit her and volunteered our services in getting her yard back in shape.

Amy and Rodney heard the story and wanted to get involved. Amy has a heart for missions and this is something that she feels called to do. Why not start with Trisha's house? And then they knew of another friend, Tiana, who would also like to help. And before the day was over we had the other neighbors, Jim and son Josh, who jumped in to help! The more the merrier!

We trimmed, we cut, we shaped, we dug, we pulled, we poured, we raked . . . on and on the entire day until it was transformed and a big smile was all across Trisha's face as she posed for the photo with Amy and Rodney!

During the day she was inside looking out windows as we worked and even said she felt like the queen watching us work! God's will for sure!

We all enjoyed doing this small thing for her. Amy and Rodney along with Tiana got their first experience in helping others -- just for the sake of helping -- no agenda. Tiana even got a blister -- through her gloves! Now that's some hard working!

Monty even let Josh use the blower to clean out the back of the truck when we were done and he was excited beyond words!

All just to help! All to the glory of God! And all had smiles and felt the blessing that comes from being helped and from helping!

Rest??? Maybe August???

Can't believe it's August already!!!!!

As you can see by the pics we are doing everything we can to get ourselves ready to go back into the field when needed. I spent the entire afternoon priming our back deck--what a job! I had already used a belt sander and sanded it down to the original wood. It had never been primed and each time we painted it just peeled off -- so this time I wanted to do it right! What a thought! After this deck is completed I will move to the front one, which includes the shutters and trim around the front door. This is my "summer" project and it's going to take me all summer just to get it done! :)

Monty has been under the hood of both trucks for days now. First the old white Ford needed front end work done and now it's headed to the shop this week for transmission work! Ouch! Then the old red Ford took a dive and he's been able to do that work himself -- and work it is! He made some good progress today and it might be "done" in another day! It's part of the package when you have older vehicles!

Yesterday we spent the day in Columbus where we attended church with my parents and got to greet everyone coming in. It was great to see everyone and even greater to join them in their church picnic at the city park in the afternoon! They are all so good about keeping us in their prayers and those prayers are what keep us going!

This week we will preparing for being in our own Vineyard church Sunday. We have been asked to speak to all the Sunday School kids, the elementary age ones. We have been putting together pictures to show them a bit more about disaster ministry and all that is involved with it. It's always fun to speak to kids and open the floor for their questions! "Out of the mouths of babes."

We did receive a thank you from Janey this weekend. She thanked everyone who had worked on the rebuilding of their home. She said Logan left this world knowing their home had been restored and that Janey would be fine. The flowers from the Canadian team were beautiful and warmed her heart! Thanks team!

Rebuilding lives by rebuilding homes . . . what an awesome God we serve!

The end of the Rally

I promised I would tell you about our final day at the Rally in Louisville over this past weekend. It was awesome!

Saturday was the Good Sam Club Meet and Greet day. All states have representatives that volunteer and they were all set up around a huge table where folks could come and meet them and learn more about the activities within their home state, or others that they might be traveling in. I have no idea how many people were there throughout the day but it was in the thousands.

Monty and I were set up at our own table to meet and greet those who might like to know more about what we do. It was incredible! For 6 straight hours we were talking with people. Some had questions about what we do, others had thanks to give, others had volunteered someplace and wanted to share their experiences and others were interested in how they could get involved. We were overwhelmed with the thanks and hope there will be some who will be calling or emailing as soon as we head out on our next venture.

As we left at the end of the day we were mentally recharged and exhausted at the same time. It was all still rather unreal and although we aren't about the publicity it is definitely a way to get and keep the word out there that disasters aren't over with in a short time -- even if they aren't on the news anymore.

We thank all those who stopped by to see us, all those who lifted our spirits without even realizing it and all those whose smiles, handshakes and hugs melted our hearts!

Sunday morning brought us to the worship service and from there we were headed home. A mixture of emotions flooded each of us and we used the drive to sort through them. Even yesterday we were still thinking about all the amazing people we met and still wondering how we managed to win such an award and enjoy such a blessing?!

Tomorrow Monty will be conducting the funeral for his grandmother's brother. Another honor and another blessing!

Special Notice

We are home from the Rally and I will talk about that another day.

For now --- just received a phone call from Janey (for those of you who have been following us it's Janey and Logan) and Logan passed away this morning. Janey said he had not been feeling well for the past couple of weeks and this morning was his day to go and join the Lord in heaven! Please keep she and the family in your prayers. We all know that Logan had been through some terrible health problems and we thank God for allowing us to get to know and love he and Janey.

Also, while we were gone we received a call saying a member of Monty's family passed away. The family has asked Monty to officiate the funeral this Wednesday. We met with the family this afternoon to finalize some details and also ask that you keep the entire family in your prayers.

We all know our days are numbered and we should all thank God for each day we have on this earth. Although it's sad for us when a loved one passes away we are to rejoice and celebrate their life and their new life in heaven!

An Amazing Honor

These past 2 days have been like a whirlwind! As you know, we are in Kentucky at the Good Sam Club annual Rally where we won the RVer of the Year award.

Yesterday we were honored to be a part of the first days activities. A tour for all those who won "best this or best that"; like Cracker Barrel being the RVers favorite sit down restaurant because everyone knows they have special parking in the rear of their places for those of us pulling campers, the Flying J truck stop for best gas, and so on. From there it was off to appetizers and then a wonderful dinner where each of those listed above received their awards.

Then it was our turn to receive our award. It was so extremely humbling! We are not nor have we ever been about awards and to receive this one, hearing them describe our work, our ministry --- it was tough to hold back the tears. The showed everyone the video we have of Ms Faye and Mike (see March of 2007 for their full story) and by the end nearly everyone else was in tears. We received a standing ovation! What an awesome God we serve!

Immediately after the dinner we were wisked away to the stadium where we were honored once again -- this time in front of who knows how many people! The spot lights blinded us while we were on stage and I think that might have been a good thing! The video of us being featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams was shown to give everyone just a taste of our ministry. Camping World took the stage as one of the major sponsors and decided to give us a nice gift certificate -- we can now replace the broken down chair and couch in our trailer! Incredible! It also meant the world to us to have Monty's parents sitting right in front for the whole thing. My parents weren't able to make it as my mother is ill -- both of us broken hearted!

Right after the honors we were all entertained by Bob Newhart! We all remembered his TVshows and seeing him in person --- especially with front row seats --- fantastic!

By the time we arrived back at our room we were exhausted mentally and emotionally but still wound for sound -- a tough set of emotions to make sense of!

This morning we were up and back at the Rally bright and early. They had a dog show that I wanted to see and we all laughed at all the categories, the dogs and their owners. Since we were unable to bring our camper we left our dogs at home and today I really missed them. I know they could have won something!? :)

After the show we grabbed lunch and headed into the room where all the vendors were set up with everything imaginable -- and some not imaginable -- needed or wanted for campers! It was alot of fun.

By the time we were finished -- and we didn't even see it all -- we had to grab a bite for dinner so we could be back for tonights entertainment ----- Tanya Tucker!! And once again -- FRONT row seats!!!

As we traveled throughout this day we were constantly stopped by folks wanting to shake our hands, give us hugs, and thank us for serving God in what we do! We were prayed for and thanked and loved on all throughout the day and into this evening. Even after the concert we had people coming up to us and going so far as to stopping us in the parking lot as we tried to leave! This is something we are not used to and admit that although it is an honor beyond description it is a bit uncomfortable. All we are doing is following the call God has placed on our lives. Our mission statement isn't very long or detailed; "help the people" --- but somehow God has managed to work through us to allow thousands to see Him at work! THAT is more than humbling!

Tomorrow we are scheduled to be at what's called "Meet and Greet" where we will be set up at a table where people can talk with us or ask questions. We do have our business cards and I did make a letter of sorts to try and describe what we actually do when we are in the field. Please pray that God will give us the words and that all we do and say will be to His glory!

People are asking how to come and help -- they are giving us their cards -- they are praying for us -- they are smiling and thanking God for the work we have been doing.

The problem?????????????? All the work has been done by YOU ---- the volunteers who have come and rolled up your sleeves and done the work! YOU have rebuilt lives by rebuilding homes and YOU should be the ones receiving this award -- the thanks -- the hugs -- the smiles and the prayers!

But I guess we'll have to do what they do elsewhere --- "we accept this award on behalf of all of YOU who weren't able to be here!"
